What's this fascinating app called coredu?

You’ve probably already seen the posts, watched the videos, maybe even read the books. But none of it gave you a map. A plan built for you, one that helps you learn things and actually apply them to your own goals.
That’s why we’re building coredu.

  1. A coredu lesson on a phone: a short titled explanation of empathy, three paragraphs long, with a progress bar at the top.

    1Learn

One idea per lesson. Short enough for a queue, or anywhere you have a minute.

  2. A coredu question on a phone, just answered: the chosen option is marked correct in green and a panel below it explains why.

    2Verify

We use scientifically validated learning methods to make sure you really learned.

  3. The coredu Practice tab on a phone: today's commitments, each with a tick and a cross to record it and a bar showing the days done so far.

    3Apply

A challange to apply what you learned and make you accountable.

Not a course. A map.

Most courses march you through lessons in a fixed order and expect you to finish every one. coredu doesn’t. Just a connected map of the seven skills. Learn what you care about, skip what you don't.

What does success look like for you?

Pick up to three.

We are in it for the long run

Most courses are done with you the moment you’ve paid. coredu isn’t. We help you make small changes that stick, and stay with you while you become the person you’re trying to be.

Why we’re building coredu

The things that decide how a life actually goes (money, health, your attention, the people around you) are not secrets. They are written down, well understood and mostly free, just scattered across ten thousand books with no map and no order. We are building the map, and the part almost everyone skips: the application.

Questions, answered

What is coredu, exactly?

A map of the seven skills that decide how a life actually goes: money, your mind, your body, your time, technology, people, and the human stuff that makes any of it worth doing. It breaks them into lessons you can finish in five minutes, each one ending with something to go and do. It is an app for your phone, iPhone and Android, launching this September.

How is this different from a course, a podcast or the last app I downloaded?

Two ways. First, it is not a line. A course hands you its contents in the order it was written in, starting at lesson one of a subject you may already be halfway through; coredu is a connected map of the seven skills, and the route through it is the one your goal actually needs, which is usually not the one you would have guessed. Second, those all end when the content ends, and almost nothing survives the ending. coredu is built around the part after: one thing to try in your real life this week, and a place to come back and say what happened. We would rather you finish ten lessons and change one habit than watch a hundred and change nothing.

What makes you think any of it will stick?

The two findings with the most evidence behind them in learning research, and neither is a new idea. They are simply almost never built into the product. The first is retrieval practice: you remember something because you had to produce it from memory, not because you read it again, which is why every lesson here ends in a question rather than a summary. The second is spaced repetition: a thing you got wrong comes back on a schedule pitched at the point you were about to lose it, and the schedule moves per person and per question rather than on a fixed calendar. On top of those, the difficulty adapts, so questions are picked to sit just past what you can currently do, because that is where the learning is and it is also the only place this stays interesting. And then, unlike any of the above on their own, you have to go and use it in your actual week. Nothing survives on recall alone.

How much time does this take?

Five minutes for a lesson. That is the unit, and it is a real constraint we design to rather than an average. The practice takes as long as the thing itself takes, because it happens in a conversation you were going to have anyway, or a decision you were going to make anyway. There is no daily minimum to keep, and nothing punishes you for missing a week.

What will it cost?

We are not putting a number on a page before it is settled, and you will see the price before we ever ask you for anything. What is settled: everyone who joins the waitlist gets their first six months free, so you will have used coredu for half a year before paying is even a question. Joining costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

What happens if I join the waitlist?

One email now, so you know we exist and you can reply to it. Then nothing at all until we open the doors this September, when the waitlist gets in first, with six months free. You are not on a drip sequence, and one click removes you for good.

Still here? Then this was written for you.
